Aberdeen 0-0 Kilmarnock in fifth round
It’s approaching six hundred minutes since Aberdeen scored a goal. Their latest fallow spell came in the Scottish Cup fifth round draw against Kilmarnock.
Blustery conditions marred the tie at Pittodrie as the game kicked off on the cusp of Storm Ciara.
The most startlingly reports described players holding the ball in position for corners and free-kicks which superseded analysis about wayward crosses and play lacking in any end product.
McInnes says he’s tried everything to get the Dons scoring again including making five changes for the tie against Kilmarnock.
Out came McGeouch, Hedges, Gallagher, Ash Taylor (injured) as well as new Venezuelan signing Ronald Hernandez and in came Logan, Devlin, Campbell, McGuinn and Ojo but still the lacklustre Dons could only manage one shot on target.
Sam Cosgrove, who has scored all of Aberdeen’s goals in 2020 (one), now finds himself in an increasingly barren spell after netting eighteen goals in the first half of the season.
The conditions should be better for the replay in Kilmarnock in three weeks which gives Derek McInnes time to conjure up one more idea on how the Dons can put the ball in the net.
Round-up
Captain Scott Brown was on the scoresheet for Celtic who avenged their 2006 cup defeat with a 3-nil win over Clyde.
Brown scored with a close range finish from a corner in between goals from Olivier Ntcham and Vakoun Bayo.
BSC Glasgow couldn’t make it a seventh win in the cup losing to Hibernian 4-1, Marc McNulty getting a hat-trick for the Hibees.
Morelos ended his four game goal drought for Rangers scoring with a predatory header.
The tie remained level until the 68th minute between the Gers and a much changed Hamilton side.
Joe Aribo finally broke the deadlock before Morelos returned to scoring form and Scott Arfield netted a second in injury time.
